Abstract

"To fully understand the complexity of the novel, it is imperative that the intricately related web of trauma and memory must be understood within a transcultural context and a cultural specificity befitting Haitian American imagination. This paper therefore aims to examine the ways in which Danticat utilizes the culturally specific issue of 'testing' and voodoo legends of blood and the double to depict trauma and memory that are closely related to a problematic of boundary within the mother-daughter relationship."
