Gary Robert Shane Barron, University of Alberta

Gary Barron, University of Alberta, grbarron@ualberta.ca. Gary Barron is a doctoral student in sociology at the University of Alberta. His master’s thesis examined the creation of the 2010 Alberta Mental Health Act and introduction of CTOs to Alberta. He has worked as a community support worker for dually diagnosed adults and as a research assistant for Alberta Health Services Addiction and Mental Health. His academic interests include mental health and illness, professionalization, sociological theory, governance, control, and the sociology of knowledge. Major theme in his work deal with conflicts, the creation and contestation of categories, and processes around the classification of people, events, and things.
