Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript is of sociological relevance or within the scope of sociology and is cited in APA (6th Edition) citation format. Please note that submissions that do not properly follow APA (7th Edition) citation style will not be reviewed.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses Times New Roman in 12 pt font; and all illustrations, figures, and tables follow APA (7th Edition) citation format.
  • The reference list is double-spaced, uses Times New Roman in 12 pt font, follows APA (7th Edition) citation format, and has been uploaded.
  • The manuscript is not a book review or book report.
  • All documents are saved in Microsoft word as either .doc or .docx.
  • The instructions for Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  • The manuscript has not been published  in or submitted to another academic journal.

Author Guidelines

Format Requirements:

Authors must submit an abstract, manuscript, and a reference list . The abstract should be between 50-250 words in length. All manuscripts must be in English, Times New Roman 12 point font, double spaced, using APA (7th ed.) citation style and should be between 1000-5000 words. A reference list should be submitted as a separate document under 'References' which will also be in English, Times New Roman 12 pt font, double-spaced, in APA (7th Edition) citation style.

Ensuring a Blind Review:

To ensure the integrity of the blind peer-review for submission to this journal, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the Author(s) and Reviewer(s) from being known to each other. This involves the Author(s), Editor(s), and Reviewer(s) checking to see if the following steps have been taken with regard to the text and the file properties:

  • The Author(s) of the document have deleted their names from the text, with "Author" and year used in the references and footnotes, instead of the Author(s)' name.
  • With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file. On Mac, follow the path: Tools --> Protect Document --> Remove personal information from file on save.
  • With PDFs, the authors' names should also be removed from Document Properties found under File on Adobe Acrobat's main menu.

Tips for a Quality Submission:

  • Make an explicit argument: Have a peer or professor read your manuscript and identify your main argument. If they have any difficulty identifying your main argument, you may need to revise and clarify your thesis statement. When in doubt, statements such as "This paper argues that..." are a great start.
  • Cite every quotation: Search and highlight all quotation marks in your manuscript. Ensure that every quotation is adequately cited. When using quotation marks around slang words or euphemisms, make sure it is clear to readers that it is not a quotation.
  • Relate each paragraph back to your thesis statement: Read through your manuscript and underline a sentence in each paragraph or section which relates your evidence back to your thesis statement. It should be clear how your evidence supports your main argument.
