La traduction italienne de Les Soleils des indépendances d’Ahmadou Kourouma : le cas du traitement des diatopismes
This essay is about the Italian translation of Les Soleils des Indépendances by A. Kourouma. Both a lexicographical analysis and peritextual elements influencing the reception of the novel in the target culture are considered. A lexicographic analysis is carried out, and the peritextual elements influencing the reception of the novel in the target culture are considered. The linguistic analysis focuses on diatopisms in Ivory Coast French. These lexemes, which represent the peculiarity of this French variety and reflect the socioliguistic situation reproduced the novel, have been classified according to lexicographic methods: their diatopic character has been verified on dictionaries of Ivory Coast French and African French. Subsequently, the lexemes have been classified according to the scheme on Canadian diatopisms conceived by Cl. Poirier and re-adapted by A. Thibault. The translation techniques adopted to translate diatopismes are analyzed and commented. The translator adopts different techniques, resorting in particular to loan words, calquing, graphic adaptations, notes and additions. No references to the Francophone community, to French and to its peculiarity in the region are present. Exoticism in the novel is conveyed in the target culture only by means of peritextual elements.
