Author Guidelines
Article Processing Charge
In order to continue operating as a multi-disciplinary, open-access journal that publishes original works, IJQM has implemented a $500.00 Article Processing Charge (APC) for articles submitted and accepted for publication after January 1st, 2013. Articles will be subject to payment only after peer review, official acceptance, and entry into the production process. Fees may be waived for individuals that do not have adequate funding to cover the charges. Applicants will be assessed on a case by case basis and will be required to submit a formal written request to ijqm@ualberta.ca
Article Submissions
After you are Logged In and/or Registered, select User Home > Author. After clicking this link, you will be able to proceed to the online submission process.
* Although there is no pre-determined length, most articles fall between 5000 and 7500 words.
Author Details:
* In the appropriate metadata sections of your submission, provide the authors’ full name(s), affiliation, and geographic locale. See published IJQM articles for examples. Do NOT put this information on the article; see blind review procedures below.
General Formatting:
* Single space the body of the text and references (leaving one line between reference list citations).
* One character space only between sentences.
* The text should be in 11- Point, Times New Roman font.
* Employ italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
* All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
* Figures are clear, black/white, or coloured and numbered using Arabic numbers.
It is important to remember when formatting your article to not let the word processing software format it for you -- do it manually. Do not use the automatic bullet or numbered list features.
Abstract, Keywords, and Author Note:
* Provide an abstract, which effectively summarizes the content of your article.
* Provide 5-7 keywords, which effectively describe the main themes of your article.
* You may include an author note here (though it needs to be blinded until publication if it identifies the author; see blinding for peer review below).
* Bold the section headings and label them as Abstract, Keywords, and Author Note.
* The keywords and author note should precede their text with a colon.
* Please see IJQM published articles for examples of abstracts, keywords, and author notes.
* Complete the text box for an abstract in the submission's metadata section.
Headings and Block Quotes:
* Level one headings are bold and centered.
* Level two headings should be bold and aligned left.
* Level three headings should be italic and aligned left.
* Block quotes should be indented 1.27cm on left side only.
Notes:
* Unless absolutely necessary, please incorporate all potential notes within the body of the text.
References:
* The reference list should follow the centered, bolded heading References.
* References should be single spaced with one line between citations.
* In-text and reference list citations must be accurate and formatted according to APA, 6th edition. Failure to do so may result in a delay in the publication process.
Style
Please use APA, 6th edition for style (except where superseded by IJQM’s Author Guidelines), references, and citations. Articles not following APA, 6th edition may be delayed and/or returned to the author for revision before entering the peer review process.
Graphics
Electronic publishing allows for a convenient and inexpensive method of publishing full color graphics, so please feel free to use photographs and illustrations where appropriate. When incorporating an image, such as a photograph, a video screen capture, a table, or an illustration into your article, please insert it into the appropriate position in the body of the article you are submitting for review.
Blinding Article for Peer Review:
All submitted articles must be blinded for peer review:
a) The authors of the document have deleted their names from the text, with "Author" and year used in the references, instead of the authors' name, article title, etc.
b) With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file, by clicking on the following, beginning with File on the main menu of the Microsoft application: File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > check box "Remove personal information from this file on save." Mac users click on Word > Preferences > Security > check box "Remove personal information from this file on save."
c) With PDFs, the authors' names should also be removed from Document Properties found under File on Adobe Acrobat's main menu.
d) Please also remove any other text content that might serve as identifiers, including authors' notes acknowledging support.
Ethics Approval, Consents, Releases, and Copyright Permissions :
All authors are responsible for the content of their articles. Research published in IJQM must have been reviewed and approved by the necessary ethics review boards, and have attained all necessary participant consents and permissions. Releases from identifiable persons must be submitted with photographs or video stills. Permissions to use more than 500 words of any copyrighted text, or any portion of poetry, must be obtained from the copyright holder by the author, and notice of such permission must accompany the initial submission to IJQM.
Submission Preparation Checklist

- All submitted articles must be blinded for peer review:

b) With Microsoft Office documents, author identification should also be removed from the properties for the file, by clicking on the following, beginning with File on the main menu of the Microsoft application: File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options > check box "Remove personal information from this file on save."
